Gaypril Recipes: The Classic White Russian

By | April 15, 2013

So we wanted to share with you a real classic and we finally agreed that one cocktail that no one ever seems to get right is the White Russian. This is the fool-proof way to make a White Russian from the Xcite team! Enjoy!

  • 1 cup of ice cubes
  • 1 to 1 1/2 oz (30 to 45 mL) vodka
  • 1/2 to 1 1/2 oz (15 to 45 mL) Kahlua
  • Cream, Half & Half, or Milk (to fill or top off the glass)
  • Maraschino cherry for garnish (Gaypril)

Fill a rocks or highball glass with ice.

Pour the vodka into the glass. We recommedn you use a measuring cup. If you free pour you will get it wrong, no matter how skilled you are. Measure and be merry.

Pour the Kahlua into the glass. Some people at this point stir the ingredients with a swizzle stick to mix the alcoholic ingredients. DON’T! There is no need to stir, and if the customer wants it stirred they can do so themselves.

Top off the glass with full fat milk. The drink should not stirred, as the alcoholic ingredients, especially the Kahlua, should rest on the bottom of the glass. The dark Kahlua should be evident on the bottom of the glass, and contrast with the milk. The vodka will not be apparent, as it is clear, and it will mix some with the milk. Using full fat gives a richer flavour. It is a must!

Garnish with a single maraschino cherry if desired. And we do desire – it is Gaypril afterall.
